PREVIEW // Gathering of the Vibes Music Festival :: Bridgeport, CT :: 7.19-7.22.12

Good vibes will be reverberating through the universe this July, as Gathering of the Vibes Music Festival prepares to launch their 17th annual music, arts and camping galore this July 19-22nd in Bridgeport, CT. Set aside the beautiful Long Island sound, the masters from all across the musical realm will gather to grace the 15 to 25,000 person strong crowd of dead heads, jam fanatics and electronic music fans. With headliners including Primus, Phil Lesh & Friends, Bob Weir & Bruce Horsnby with special guest Branford Marsalis and a UFO favorite, Sound Tribe Sector 9, all the pieces are in play for a magical weekend on the water.

It’s been almost a year since Primus has released their newest album “GREENNAUGAHYDE” and for the past two years the band has continued to hone their infamous skills as Les Claypool is reunited with his original drummer Jay Lane. UFO caught Primus last summer at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, Colorado, and this past June at Wakarusa Music Festival in Ozark, Arkansas, and both performances left us in awe! We can’t wait to SHAKE HANDS WITH BEEF!

Phil Lesh & Friends

Phil Lesh & Friends scream jam band, and here at, we are no strangers to the art of  jam! As a founding member of the legendary jamming savants, the Grateful Dead, Lesh has continued to travel the world playing with top-notch musicians everywhere he lands. Along with his longtime jam partner, Bob Weir, the gifted duo has been traveling the United States with Further, celebrating the beauty of music for all.

Bob Weir & Bruce Hornsby

Another original founding member of the Grateful Dead, Weir has continued to celebrate his musical talents since the inception of jam music. Since his days in the Grateful Dead, Weir has let his love for music lead him on the Further tour with long time buddy Phil Lesh. This year at Vibes, he will be joining the works of Bruce Hornsby (singer, pianist, composer, bandleader) and Grammy Award winning saxophonist Branford Marsalis, which is sure to be a real treat.

As devoted STS9 fans, the staff of have been traveling with the band for some time now. After seeing what we believe to be one of the better sets of this year Saturday night at Electric Forest, we cannot wait to see what they bring to the table at Gathering of the Vibes. Will it be a “Great Spectacle” or a throwback night full of oldies? We are not quite sure as of now, but trust us, whatever Murph and the guys decide to set loose, will be nothing short of spectacular.

With this year’s experience being UFO’s first year at Gathering of the Vibes, we are excited about doing some research into the arts and culture-features throughout the grounds, as well as the late night music specials. Who are we really excited about? Gigantic Underground Conspiracy! Made up of Marc Brownstein and Aron Magner (Conspirator/The Disco Biscuits), Dominic Lalli and Jeremy Salken (Big Gigantic) and Ben Baruch (Underground Orchestra), this dynamic group mashes live instruments with electronic beats and is sure to get the crowd going.

Other acts we cannot wait to see:

-Yonder Mountain String Band

-Mickey Hart Band

-Zappa Plays Zappa

-The Avett Brothers

-Keller Williams

-Dark Star Orchestra

See y’all there!
