In the last couple years it’s hard to say one specific style of EDM has dominated airwaves as much as electro-house (with the exception of dubstep, of course). One of the major forces behind that is the German-born producer Anton Zaslavski, a.k.a. Zedd. Zedd‘s producing has always been top-notch and his classically trained ear is starting to create some of the best vocal and instrumental melodies in the world of music.
His latest effort, “Spectrum (feat. Matthew Koma)” is another evolutionary step forward for Zedd. “Spectrum” opens with Matthew Koma’s silky-smooth vocal line which is the highlight of the first 30 seconds. Zedd builds up his synth-movements slowly below Matthew’s vocals until the last minute when the signature bright and over-driven bass Zedd is know for kicks in. The vocals and intrumental melodies are the best in the game, but Zedd’s attention to the song dynamics are the most important part as they keep the track continuously interesting. I personally cannot wait until we get Zedd’s full version of this song, but the two-and-a-half minutes he does give us is remarkable.
