After years of silence and holdbacks, Turing Machine is finally back with a new album. What Is The Meaning Of What – out 5/8 via Temporary Residence – is seven tracks of hypnotic dance rock that challenge to keep their dance rock buzz as alive as ever.
Not only is this the first release since their critically acclaimed album Zwei released eight years ago, but it’s also the last music recorded with drummer Jerry Fuchs before his tragic death. Fuchs was an integral part of the indie dance scene, spending time during Turing Machine‘s hiatus to collaborate with names such as !!!, Maserati, The Juan Maclean, LCD Soundsystem, Holy Ghost!, MSTRKRFT, and Massive Attack.
This is fresh territory for UFO to an extent, but we think the psych-rock sounds will absolutely resonate with those who view the jamtronica genre mostly as instrument-driven dance music. The layers of grinding post-punk riffs are less suited for banging heads and more for banging hips, and the rough edges and krautrock-tinged tension make this an album you can easily digest over several headphone sessions.
