Washington D.C.-based producer Manila Killa provides us with an unexpectedly emotional bootleg — first, we give him props for using “Time” from Hans Zimmer’s score for Inception, then blending it with SHM’s “Greyhound,” “Fix You” by Coldplay, and “Walking Alone” by Dirty South.
The track is named “The Kick” as in an Inception kick, “a particular method to awaken a sleeping person from their dream. That feeling of falling and suddenly waking up – that’s the direction I was going for in this track,” the Killa states. It’s not often you see a mashup or bootleg with any kind of development, but Manila Killa manages to make these pieces flow forward with each other. Further props are due for the idea of jolting someone to reality… though it’s not clear that melodic house is the best “reality” music — let’s just run with the Inception theme and say it’s like waking up into another dream.
