Great news coming from Brighton-based producer Mark Dobson, aka Ambassadeurs. His upcoming, yet-to-be-named album is fast approaching, and “Duke Red” (along with last week’s video release for “M.O.P.E.”, see below) is previewing just what is to be expected.
We know exactly what to expect: even today, six months after its release, “Rössler” is still a reliably relevant track that absolutely strikes a chord with Boulder’s taste for sweet, glitchy bass jams. It’s equally capable to hold it down during a living room smoke session or in the midst of a rowdy party bus (we’ll personally vouch for the latter). Both of his previous EP releases speak volumes about Dobson’s talents: “Rössler” is a free download from the Come A Little Closer EP is available to buy from Jalapeno Records, and Ambassadeurs’ self-titled EP is available to buy on Bandcamp.
So we must celebrate this free track and the possibilities of Ambassadeurs‘ future sound. “Duke Red” brings pitched R&B sampling and 8-bit arpeggios to that sweet spot between speaker-blasting low-end and smooth percussive flow. Effortlessly fly, continually classy.
Here’s the video for “M.O.P.E.” that adds window-seat hallucinations on board the soul plane.
