Outrageous news coming from Denver homies Signal Path. Not that releasing a free album is outrageous: their entire “quadrilogy” from 2011 is available for free on their website. This one is a bit different, though; on April 21st, Signal Path will be dropping the aptly-named remix album mixtaEP (see what they did there?), and the live-instrument electronic trio has released one of its tracks as a teaser.
Shabazz Palaces :: Swerve (Signal Path Remix)
The “lineup” for the mixtape is out of control: aside from the obvious and overdone choice of Skrillex, they also opted for German glitch giants and UFO favorites Modeselektor. Plenty of hip-hop vibes as well coming from The Roots, A$AP Rocky, and Main Attraktionz. To top it off, there’s some indie firepower on here like Zola Jesus, Cults, Active Child (THIS one will be sick), and Sleigh Bells. This is like Coachella in your headphones, Signal Path style.
For “Swerve,” Signal Path didn’t have to do much to the track, other than adding a little electronic touch and filling out a bassline. Whether it’s better than the original “Swerve,” well I guess that depends on how big of an electronic fan you are. Regardless, it’s definitely amping us up for the rest of mixtaEP, and we’re definitely excited to see how the band is going to bring all this to the stage.
Speaking of which, Signal Path is going to be playing SXSW, then launching into a Colorado run along with Minnesota hip-hop collective Doomtree. Six dates have been announced in Colorado so far, and unfortunately it looks like the closest one to us Boulder kids is in Fort Collins at the Aggie.
